Really useful? - Microsoft recommends new hardware purchase

Windows 7 is about to expire. On an information page about the end of support on 14 January 2020, Microsoft recommends " moving to a new device with Windows 10". See the answer to the question "What should I do?“:

This recommendation is misleading for most users of Windows 7. It obviously does not orientate itself on the interests of the consumer, but on the interests of the software giant from the American Redmond, who has been selling his own hardware for years and would obviously like to see you buy the new Surface from him, for example for a four-figure sum of money, instead of rebuilding your existing hardware with Windows 10 and using it beyond January of next year.

Even many old computers and laptops with 32-bit technology can easily be used as a second or third device with Windows 10. You only need 16 GB free hard disk space, 1 GB RAM, a 1 GHz processor and a graphics card with a WDDM 1.0 driver that supports DirectX 9 or higher. However, 32-bit devices are slow under Windows 10 and tend to freeze in continuous operation.

In our experience, 64-bit devices run faster and more reliably with Windows 10 than with Windows 7. They require 20GB of free hard disk space, 2GB of RAM, 1GHz processor power, and also a graphics card with WDDM 1.0 drivers and DirectX 9 support.

Use this tool to create an installation medium for Windows 10 on a USB data pen with at least 8 GB storage capacity. We recommend Windows 10 Pro. Use this data pen to install Windows 10 after a data backup.  Two things are important here:

First: Choose a complete new installation with formatting of the hard disk. Otherwise, Windows 10 will not run fast and trouble-free.

Second, don't enter a license key. Instead, click on "I don't have a product key" below the field for entering the license key in the installation process.
