There are currently manipulated Word documents in circulation that contain a new type of malicious code. On the other hand, no security patches existed on 31 May 2022. Microsoft therefore warns users not to open files from unknown sources:

The problem occurs with Word files, through which attackers can execute any kind of commands on the computers of users who open these files in the unprotected view. The protected view is reported to successfully fend off foreign access by the malicious files.
As a general rule, do not open any files of unknown origin that are sent to you as email attachments, for example. A serious communication partner will not, in the context of an unexpected initial contact, confront you with the task of opening a Word or PDF file through which third parties can gain access to your computer.
