Microsoft may be moving to block computers, laptops and tablets from receiving Windows 11 updates if they do not meet the hardware requirements. This is the result of a new error message in the system settings of older devices on which Windows 11 has been installed by bypassing the hardware requirements. There is a warning message there as of late:
"System requirements not met."
We had already explained in August 2021 how you can also install Windows 11 on devices that do not meet some hardware criteria. Apparently, many users have made use of the possibility to use Windows 11 on older devices. A new licence is not required for this. Windows 11 automatically reads the licence for Windows 10 and is then activated with it.
The current development could force many users to downgrade to Windows 10. And it makes the work involved in switching to Windows 11 a risk that is difficult to calculate for users who want to switch. Because without security updates, Windows 11 can only be used offline.
