Currently, online advertising for table-top coolers is running hot in Europe. No sooner are temperatures above 30 degrees than miracle devices are offered that supposedly cost less than 100 euros and can cool an entire room by 10 degrees or more in just a few minutes. Exact performance specifications are usually missing from the product descriptions. Devices are often sold under names such as Blaux Portable AC and Blast Portable AC for around 90 euros, which advertisers attribute miraculous abilities to.

The lack of precise power specifications, on the other hand, is no wonder, because it is of course physically impossible to bring about major climate changes with a small, battery-powered device. Moreover, the devices are usually overpriced. A tabletop cooling unit should cost less than 50 euros.
