Older computers with 1 to 4 GB of memory become slow as you launch lots of different programs or work on larger files. The Windows function ReadyBoost enables you to expand your memory’s capacity. The instructions below apply to Windows versions Vista, 7, 8 and 10.
You can use any standard USB data stick with a capacity of 1 to 8 GB to enable your operating system to very quickly free up data from its memory. Access to the USB stick is considerably quicker than accessing data on a hard disk.
To do this, please format the data stick in the NTFS format. Then right-click on it and go to ‘Properties’. From there, go to the ‘ReadyBoost’ tab and select ‘Reserve this device for ReadyBoost’. Then click on OK.
Your data stick’s complete storage capacity is now available for buffering data, and for all functions: Not just for image editing, for example, but also for using programs. However, the effects only become noticeable after several usage sessions, because the system first needs to ‘learn’ which applications to handle in this way.
